William & Mary's fast start sinks Coll of Charleston 78-70

WILLILAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Omar Prewitt scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead William & Mary to a 78-70 win over College of Charleston on Saturday.

Daniel Dixon added 12 points for the Tribe (9-4, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Conference) and Terry Tarpley became the first player in the program with 100 steals and 100 blocks.

Marquise Pointer had 23 points for the Cougars (9-4, 1-1), 17 in the second half. Canyon Barry, the leading scorer in the conference at 20.4, had 11, all in the first half.

Prewitt and Dixon combined for 21 points and the Tribe made 7 of 13 3-pointers and shot 61 percent from the field for a 44-25 lead at the half.

Prewitt's jumper, after back-to-back 3s from Greg Malinowski and Connor Burchfield, made it 21-9. Three 3s and Prewitt's two baskets pushed it to 40-18.

The Cougars did not get within single digits until the final four minutes.
