Williams hits 2 late FTs to give Liberty 73-70 win (Jan 09, 2018)

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) Isaiah Williams was fouled as he hauled in an offensive rebound and then made two free throws in the final ten seconds as Liberty rallied to beat Winthrop 73-70 on Tuesday night.

Liberty trailed 70-69 when Lovell Cabbil missed a 3-point attempt. Williams grabbed the rebound, was fouled and made both free throws to give Liberty a 71-70 lead with nine seconds left. Ryan Kemrite added two more free throws in the final second to give Liberty its third straight Big South win and stopped a 13-game losing skid at Winthrop that dated back to 2004.

Cabbill had 19 points, Caleb Homesley added 13 and Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz added 11 for the Flames (12-5, 3-1).

Liberty trailed 70-63 with 2:43 remaining. Pacheco-Ortiz scored six straight to close to 70-69.

Adam Pickett scored 21 points for the defending Big South champions. Winthrop (7-8, 1-3) now has lost three straight.
