Wilson scores 34, leads Detroit over Youngstown State 96-87
DETROIT (AP) Anton Wilson notched career highs with 34 points and nine rebounds, and Detroit erupted for 59 second-half points to beat Youngstown State 96-87 in each team's Horizon League opener on Saturday.
Trailing 43-37 at the break, Detroit (7-5) tallied 15 points in the first five minutes to take a 52-51 lead and eventually led by 13 with 10 minutes left. Wilson had 26 of his 34 in the final 20 minutes, easily surpassing his previous career high (21). Jaleel Hogan was 7 of 7 from the field and scored 17.
Youngstown State (5-9) got two free throws from Sidney Umude to pull the Penguins within nine at 82-73 with 3:32 left, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Wilson 20 seconds apart put the game away.
Cameron Morse led the Penguins with 24 points and made 10 of 14 free throws. Matt Donlan had 22 points, Jordan Andrews added 13 and Umude 13.
