WVU Basketball: At Virginia
The WVU basketball team traveled to Virginia on Saturday to take on the # 6 Virginia Cavaliers. West Virginia (6-1) picked up an impressive win against a Cavalier team that’s held in high regard to the rest of the country.
Virginia guard Darius Thompson led all scorers with 14 points, but it was a total team effort from the Mountaineers that defeated the Cavaliers on Saturday.
Jevon Carter paced the ‘Eers with 11 points, but it was 14 forced turnovers that Virginia committed that kept WVU in the game.
After having a difficult first half, Bob Huggins’ and Press Virginia were ready to play in the second. Senior Nathan Adrian led the press unit that created five second half turnovers. As the point man on the press, Adrian filled the box score; he grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists, and caught two steals while still scoring ten points, second on the team.
The Mountaineers won the turnover battle and had the better free throw percentage, making 16 of 19 from the stripe, two key components when facing a team as good as Tony Bennett’s Cavaliers.
An important road victory for Huggins’ team as they look to rebound from last year’s disappointing March Madness. After their 66-57 win at Virginia, they’ll travel back to Morgantown to face off against Western Carolina on Dec. 7, at The Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
