Xavier commit Eddie Ekiyor to enroll, redshirt this season
Xavier head coach Chris Mack landed his third recruit in his Class of 2016, securing a commitment from Canadian big man Eddie Ekiyor.
The 6-foot-9 forward is expected to enroll in school in December and redshirt the remainder of the season for the Musketeers, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN.
Ekiyor, who attends the New Hampton School in New Hampshire, joins point guard Quentin Goodin and power forward Tyrique Jones in Xavier's Class of 2016. This incoming class will also be joined by Norfolk State transfer RaShid Gaston, who is sitting out the season due to NCAA transfer rules. He averaged 15.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game with the Spartans during the 2015-16 season.
Even though their involvement will be limited to practice, having Gaston and Ekiyor with the program this winter will be important moving forward, as Xavier could have a new-look frontline for the 2016-17 season. James Farr will graduate this spring and Jalen Reynolds could explore professional opportunities following this season.
In the summer, Ekiyor played for CIA Bounce in the Nike EYBL, averaging 10.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in 15 appearances.
