Yale forward breaks NCAA consecutive field goals record
Yale senior forward Brandon Sherrod added to his breakout season by setting an NCAA record on Friday evening in an 86-72 win over Columbia.
Sherrod connected on his 27th consecutive made field goal with an uncontested layup in the first half against the Lions. The 6-foot-6 forward would extend the streak to 30 before missing his first shot in three games on a jumper with less than five minutes to go before halftime.

Sherrod, a Bridgeport, Connecticut, native, took all of last season off to travel the world with Yale's famous a capella group, the Whiffenpoofs. He left an Ivy League contender with encouragement from his teammates, including leading scorer Justin Sears.
He rejoined the team this season to help the Bulldogs earn that elusive NCAA Tournament bid. Yale has not been to the Big Dance since 1962.
Sears and sophomore point guard Makai Mason are both playing at an All-Ivy League level, but Sherrod has been crucial to Yale's 5-0 start in conference play. He's averaging 11.3 points and is grabbing a team-best 7.6 boards per game.
Yale and Columbia were pegged as the preseason favorites. The two schools meet again in the Ivy League finale on March 5.
