Young keys Idaho in OT, Vandals top CSU Bakersfield 76-70
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Trevon Allen scored six of his game-high 23 points in overtime as Idaho outlasted CSU Bakersfield, 76-70 on Saturday night.
The Vandals’ six-point lead in overtime was the biggest either team enjoyed.
Justin McCall put the Roadrunners in front, 63-62 with :20 remaining in regulation, but Allen drew a foul and stepped to the line for two free-throw attempts, missed the first and tied the game with the second.
Czar Perry gave CSU Bakersfield its only lead of the extra period with two free throws, but Allen put Idaho back in front for good with a jumper and added to it with a fast-break layup off an over-the-shoulder pass from Keyshaad Dixon.
Babacar Thiombane found open space in the lane and converted at the basket to take a four-point lead, 70-66 with 2:00 left. Allen hit two of four free throws and Thiombane added two more to seal the victory.
Young grabbed seven rebounds and dished six assists for the Vandals (4-6). Chance Garvin added 16 points off the bench and Scott Blakney and Quinton Forrest added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
De’Monte Buckingham had 16 points and four steals for CSU Bakersfield (4-8). McCall added 12 points off the bench, Ronne Readus had 11 points and grabbed 16 boards and Taze Moore added 11 points.
