Aaron Burbridge stepping up for Michigan State
Among the questions facing Michigan State football this season as whether or not anyone would step up in the absence of Big Ten Wide Receiver of the Year Tony Lippett.
Through two games, senior Aaron Burbridge has done just that.
"Aaron has always been a tremendous football player," Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio told reporters in East Lansing during a press conference Tuesday. "He's had some injury problems in the past. Played as a true freshman for us. Had a great freshman year. Sophomore year probably took a little bit of a step back maybe. That would have been '13. But I think he was injured, as I remember, a little bit in that year."
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound senior from Farmington Hills, Mich., caught four passes for 117 yards in the season opener against Western Michigan then hauled in eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown last Saturday against Oregon.
His 17-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter put the Spartans on top 14-7 in a game they would eventually win 31-28.
"He's always been a guy that has rotated in and I've always thought of him as a starter here and a go-to guy," Dantonio said. "He's getting the ball thrown to him a little bit more because he's at the 'X' position some. He's able to go around and play any of those positions so we can move him in and out of different formations."
