Abilene Christian to introduce football coach Monday

Published Dec. 14, 2016 1:09 p.m. ET

(STATS) - Abilene Christian has scheduled a news conference for Monday to introduce a new coach.

The Southland Conference university did not identify the coach in announcing the news conference Wednesday. Speculation has centered on the hiring being Northwest Missouri State's Adam Dorrel, who on Saturday will seek a third NCAA Division II national title in the last four years when his Bearcats face North Alabama in the championship game. The 42-year-old coach has a 75-8 record in six seasons.

The Abilene Christian position became open last month when Ken Collums was relieved of his duties following his fifth season. The Wildcats were 2-9 this year and 24-32 under Collums.

Abilene Christian will play in a new on-campus stadium beginning in 2017. Still transitioning from the Division II level this school year, the program expects to be eligible for the FCS playoffs next season.
