Alabama A&M names Maynor coach

(STATS) - Alabama A&M announced the hiring of former Winston-Salem and Hampton coach Connell Maynor to lead its program Tuesday.

Maynor, who turns 49 on Sunday, resigned at Hampton in November after four seasons and a 20-25 record. He was much more successful at Winston-Salem State, going 45-6 with two CIAA titles, three NCAA Division II playoff appearances and a national runner-up finish to Valdosta State in 2012.

Maynor replaces James Spady, who was 15-30, including 13-21 in SWAC games, the past four seasons.

"I am really excited about the hiring of Coach Maynor. He is a proven winner and excellent coach, but more importantly, he is a great developer of young men," athletic director Bryan Hicks said.
