Alabama Football: Hilarious Interview With A Razorbacks Fan

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Alabama football will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend…so what does a Hog have to say about this game?

Earlier this week, Peter Morgan, a contributor for FanSided’s Razorbacker’s site, and I were discussing the upcoming Alabama football game against Arkansas. Morgan asked if I’d be willing to answer some questions about the matchup, and because I’m sweet like that, I obliged. You can read my own comments HERE.

But I asked Mr. Morgan if he’d be so kind as to answer a few questions of my own. For a Hog, he’s a pretty decent fellow – overall quite charming with a quick wit and great sense of humor. You can even check him out on Twitter at @PeterMorganWPS. He doesn’t have a lot of followers, which is sad, so throw him a bone and give him a follow.

Here’s what he had to say.

Q: So tell me Peter, what’s it like to have an angry pig as your team’s mascot?

Peter: I love our mascot. I love the story behind it. I love how it’s the only one like it in the nation.

The fact that it won the mascot tournament says a lot about how tough of a mascot it really is. When you’re in the woods, and you look over and you see an elephant, you think, “Odd, there’s an elephant.” If you look over and see an 800 pound razorback charging at you, you get your “Les Miles” out of there.

Q: The Alabama football team has won the last eight meetings against the Razorbacks. Do you think this year will break the streak?

Peter: You’re smart. You know that I’m not Nostradamus, although my fashion sense tends to make you think otherwise. I don’t know if it will be broken, however I think there is a very good chance it will be. There have been close games in those eight that have come down to a questionable call, two defenders with one causing the other to drop a game saving interception, and other failures to seal the victory. No excuses. There were also games where Alabama has come in and blown us out of the water. Literally, I remember a rainy Saturday in the DWR where the Hogs got dominated, and I got an early seat at the Chinese buffet.

    Q: Have you ever worn a Hog-Hat?

Peter: A cap that says “HOGS”? Yes. A hat shaped like a razorback? No, but I own one. I’m saving it for that special lady that will someday come into my life. Until that point, upon my office shelf it will abide.

Q: What do you perceive as the Alabama football team’s greatest weakeness?

Peter: I cannot find a weakness in the Tide. They’re heady, athletic, and well coached. I’m not sold

on their offense, however. Jalen Hurts has been impressive and will have SEC West fans depressed for the next three years. I think that if a weakness does exist it will be the inexperience of a true freshman QB1. He’s looked solid though.

Q: What do you believe is Arkansas’ greatest strength?

Peter: Great bloggers and a 5% beer. Those and the ability of our wide receivers to be able to create space. Our offense, for the most part, has had a knack of making plays in critical situations. Of course, all of this is tailored upon the ability of our outer running backs to zip through any holes created by the offensive line. One cannot succeed without the other. However, Austin Allen has been able to create from nothing, which is something Arkansas will need to pull off the upset.

Q: On a scale of one to ten, how impressive is it that Bret Bielema outkicked his coverage landing his wife, Jennifer?

    Peter: Eleventy-billion.

Q: Arkansas hasn’t won the SEC since… ever. (But they did win the Southwest Conference in 1989). Why do you think the Razorbacks have yet to find their footing the SEC?

Peter: That’s actually a good question, despite the fact that I hate it. While Arkansas has won the SEC West three times since 1992, we’ve yet to win the SEC Championship. Not a season goes by that every loyal Hogs fan doesn’t reflect upon Reggie Fish’s muffed catch on a punt return that cos us the game against Florida in 2006. Fish, we still love ya though.  We get to the big games even now, but its almost like we play as though we’ve never been there before. Maybe because we haven’t.

    Q: Do you eat bacon?

    Peter: Yes.

    Q: Do you feel guilty?

Peter: It’s turkey bacon, so not really.

Q: What is your honest game prediction for this weekend as Arkansas faces the Alabama football team at home in Fayetteville?

    Peter: 34 – 17, Alabama.

Q: Can we still be friends after Bama kicks Arky’s ass?  #SorryNotSorry

Peter: Ha! You’re a brat. I’m not even going to answer that.

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Huge thanks to Peter Morgan from Razorbackers for being a good sport and playing along. Tune in to ESPN Saturday night to watch as the Alabama Crimson Tide take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 6PM central.
