Alabama State names Hill-Eley as coach
(STATS) - After revitalizing what was a winless program in early October, Alabama State has removed the interim tag from Donald Hill-Eley's title and named him the 29th coach in school history.
Taking over as the Hornets' interim coach on Oct. 6 after Brian Jenkins was relieved of his duties following an 0-5 start, Hill-Eley guided Alabama State to five wins in his six games at the helm.
"Coach Hill-Eley is a veteran who has already proven his ability to provide the kind of leadership that is needed for the university's football program," Alabama State University President Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr. said. "I would like to thank interim athletics director Jennifer Williams and the search committee for their due diligence and thoughtful deliberation in sending the recommendation of Donald Hill-Eley as ASU's next head football coach. In making this announcement, the university's leadership is affirming our commitment to the continued success of ASU's athletics program."
Hill-Eley came to Alabama State in 2015 and served as the associate head coach after spending 2014 as the wide receivers coach at Norfolk State. From 2002-13, Hill-Eley was the head coach at Morgan State. He was named the 2002 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference coach of the year, and his 59 wins with the Bears are the third-most in program history.
