South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp received a tremendous Christmas present when elite 2016 defensive prospect Keir Thomas committed to the Gamecocks on Dec. 25.

The Miami native opted to play his college ball in Columbia over fellow finalists Tennessee, Auburn, and Arkansas.

A one-time commitment to Florida State, Thomas appears primed to impact the team right away as a true freshman. During his high school career, Thomas flashed immense positional versatility -- lining up as an outside linebacker, defensive end, and defensive tackle.

While he may be a bit undersized to play inside on the next level, Thomas' combination of quickness, aggressiveness, and power makes him a very tantalizing prospect rushing off the edge.

At South Carolina, look for him to fulfill a role as a hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker.

This year, the Gamecocks accrued 20 sacks on the season -- which ranked the team No. 11 in the conference. South Carolina can only hope the addition of Thomas will improve that total in 2016.
