AP source: Michigan interim AD Jim Hackett does not want job

A person familiar with the situation says Michigan interim athletic director Jim Hackett does not want to be in the running to keep his job and the school has hired a search firm to find a replacement.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the school hasn't made an announcement about Hackett's future or its search plans.

Hackett was hired Oct. 31, 2014, to replace Dave Brandon after he resigned.

Hackett will be remembered as the AD who brought Jim Harbaugh back to Michigan to lead the football team he played for two decades ago. Hackett also played football for the Bo Schembechler-led Wolverines. He graduated in 1977. Hackett retired in February, 2014, from Steelcase, a Michigan-based business that makes office furniture.
