MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) Appalachian State tailback Marcus Cox has topped 5,000 yards in career rushing.

Cox became the 22nd FBS player to reach that milestone with a 20-yard run up the middle late in the first quarter Saturday in the Camellia Bowl against Toledo.

The Mountaineers moved up from FCS after Cox's freshman season, but the NCAA does count him on the FBS charts. He came into the game needing 40 yards to join the 5,000-yard club, jumping over Kansas State's Darren Sproles.

He came into the game trailing only San Diego State's Donnel Pumphrey among active major college runners. Toledo's Kareem Hunt ranked third in that group entering the bowl with 4,825 career yards.
