Arizona agrees to discontinue 'Haka' performance following popular petition

The Arizona Wildcats performed 'The Haka' at home before their game vs. UCLA on Saturday. But not everyone was impressed with their adaptation. 

According to SMH.com, hundreds of people (many  from the United States) have signed a petition urging the U of A to "leave the performing of the haka to those who can perform it accurately and understand its historical significance."

AZ Central reports that 1,831 people signed the peition on Change.org in a matter of days. 

Christina Campbell, a professor at California State University, Northridge, started the petition. She told stuff.co.nz how upset she was while watching the performance.

"It was really disappointing, not only that they're doing it but that they clearly don't know what they're doing," said Campbell, according to the report.

UPDATE: AZ Central reports that Arizona football has "decided to discontinue" the pregame performance. The Wildcats first began their tradition in 2009.
