Arizona Football Coaches Blazing the Recruiting Trails

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Coach Donte Williams departure is in the past and the show must go on for Arizona Football as coaches hit the recruiting trail.

Now a couple weeks into the Arizona Football offseason, the Wildcats still don’t have a replacement for the recently departed Donte Williams, however, operations must go on.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing happens at a number of division one schools, and Arizona is certainly used to this by now. Just tough as we are again replacing a coach on defense, not even a year after hired Williams and defensive coordinator Marcel Yates.

Despite the uncertainty of who the next coach will be to replace the empty defensive spot, apparently, damage control has been fair for the Wildcats, as Arizona has seen only one de-commitment thus far.

The current coaching staff has continued to be aggressive recruiting especially with the Wildcats having a bit more time with them not being in the postseason.

Already just a couple weeks into the offseason and Rodriguez and staff have been committed to their promise to make more of an emphasis on recruiting. Even with the departure of the once Wildcats commit and highly-touted athlete Greg Johnson, the Wildcats can at least finish recruiting with a strong clas.

As coaches were doing their in-home visits, Arizona received good news with current commit Drew Dixon (Sabino HS), who was upgraded to four stars on Rivals.com. Additionally, the Wildcats seem to be making big strides, especially with the big boys up front on defense.

Junior College defensive tackle Sione Taufahema announced via Twitter he will be visiting Tucson this weekend, just days after being offered.

Arizona will also be playing host to some pretty big names as well, as former Ohio State commit and four-star linebacker Antjuan Simmons will be in attendance in Tucson for an official visit. Simmons is also being recruited by Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State as well.

Despite the rather slight dip this past week, it appears Arizona may be all right after all. Coaches at Agustus Hawkins High School assured Zona Zealots that the rest of the Arizona recruits are still interested in the possibility of being a Wildcat. We’re excited to see how this class continues to shape up, and ultimately which coach Rodriguez hires. As they say, when one door closes another opens. BearDown, Arizona!
