Arizona LB Scooby Wright expected to return to face UCLA
Arizona All-America linebacker Scooby Wright is expected to play Saturday as the No. 16 Wildcats host No. 9 UCLA, a source told FOX Sports Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-1, 250-pound junior suffered a torn meniscus in Arizona's opener against Texas-San Antonio. Wright had his knee scoped three weeks ago.
In 2014, Wright led UA to the Pac-12 South title and won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Rotary Lombardi Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award, all given annually to the nation's top defender. The Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year ranked in the top five among FBS players for total tackles (163), tackles for loss (29.0), sacks (14.0) and forced fumbles (6).
ESPN was first to report the news about Wright's expected return.
UCLA suffered a similar but more serious blow this week with a season-ending knee injury to Myles Jack. A game-changing linebacker and a punishing running back in short-yardage situations, he was injured in a non-contact drill during Tuesday's practice.
