Armstrong pledges to openly accept coaching in 2016
The 2015 season was a roller coaster for Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong. He started off very well in non-conference play throwing 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions but struggled in conference play throwing 10 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.
It seems the final game was a low moment for the quarterback as his teammates played well enough around him to beat the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes, though he struggled mightily throwing four interceptions. After the game it was reported that Armstrong held a players only meeting to apologize for letting the team down.
Now according to the Lincoln Journal Star, Armstrong has vowed to work hard to improve himself and accept coaching:
"Like I told Coach Langs, I want to be treated like I'm a freshman, just being able to criticize me and me being able to accept it," Armstrong told reporters after Friday's bowl practice.
He went on to explain in more detail how he wants to start fresh:
"They treat me like I'm a veteran, but there's some aspects of the game where I'm not a veteran in, like decision-making and forcing balls and things like that," said Nebraska's quarterback. "So that's where it comes from, being able to treat me like I just got here. Like he's my coach for the first time and making sure that he holds me accountable for every mistake I make."
It is a good sign that the quarterback is taking responsibility for his play on the field in 2015. However, the fact is that he is a very veteran player who needs to improve his play if the team will be better in year two of the Mike Riley era.
Only time will tell if he has really turned a corner.
