Art Briles addresses latest Baylor football sexual assault allegations

Published Apr. 19, 2016 1:33 p.m. ET

Baylor coach Art Briles spoke on Tuesday, for the first time since another former Bears' football player was arrested on charges related to sexual assault.

That player was Shawn Oakman, and he is just the latest player to be involved in a string of high-profile sexual assault accusations and convictions which has rocked the Baylor campus. That includes five separate accusations (and an eventual conviction) for former defensive lineman Tevin Elliott according to an Outside the Lines report, and another guilty verdict in the case of Sam Ukwuachu last fall.

At this point, it's not just a "problem" on Baylor's campus, but an all-out epidemic, and Briles spoke about it on a Big XII conference call on Tuesday.

Considering that many called for Briles' firing after the Ukwuachu case last fall, it will be interesting to see how the public responds to these latest comments.

Obviously, in the case of Oakman, he is "innocent until proven guilty."

As for Baylor, it's another disturbing allegation, in what has become an all-too-common trend.
