Auburn Football Racks up the SEC Postseason Awards

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

With the regular season of college football over, it’s time to start handing out awards. Auburn football had six players earn All-SEC honors in 2016.

Auburn football had the third most players named to All-SEC teams after the conclusion of the regular season with six players being named.

The amount players listed just goes to show how good Auburn football really was this year in the SEC, which was much better than in 2015.

On offense Kamryn Pettway was listed on the first team All-SEC Football team at running back. When healthy he was one of the best running backs in the country, and he was certainly a valuable piece to Auburn’s offense.

And then on defense Carl Lawson was also named to the first team All-SEC Football team as a defensive lineman. Things started out slow for Lawson, but he finished the season with 12.5 tackles for a loss and 9 sacks.

Much to no one’s surprise, Daniel Carlson was also named All-SEC Football first team as a place kicker. It would be a travesty if he doesn’t win the Lou Groza award for the best kicker in the country this year.

Auburn had two offensive lineman named to the Second Team All-SEC in Braden Smith and Alex Kozan. They helped lead one of the best rushing attacks in the country this year.

And last, but certainly not least, Montravius Adams was named to the Second Team All-SEC team as a defensive lineman. The big fella was a beast this year collecting 39 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, an interception, 2 fumble recoveries a forced fumble and a touchdown!

The Tigers also had two players named to the SEC All-Freshman team in defensive lineman Marlon Davidson and defensive back Javaris Davis.

Davidson started the year at defensive end and showed glimpses of greatness as a freshman picking up 35 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. He’s going to be a monster for years to come.

Javaris Davis really came on strong in the secondary and finished the regular season with 32 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, a sack, 2 interceptions and 6 pass break-ups. I’m really hoping he steps up for the loss of Johnathan Ford next year.

Congrats to all our Auburn football players that were recognized for their great work on the field this year, and I look forward to seeing them play in the Sugar Bowl.
