Auburn Football Recruiting: Who's Committed, and What's Left

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:57 p.m. ET

Here we take a look at the 2017 Auburn football recruiting class of those who have committed, and what might be left for the Tigers.

This Auburn football recruiting class started out a little slow, but it’s come on quite a bit and is currently ranked in the top 10 according to 247sports.

Of course the biggest commitment lately came from former Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham. Many believe he’ll come in and become the starting quarterback immediately.

Three-star tight end Salvatore Cannella has already signed his letter of intent during the early signing period.

So far the class’ lone 5-star recruit is offensive tackle Calvin Ashley. The 6-foot-6, 310 pound lineman has been committed to the Tigers for quite some time.

Austin Troxell and Nick Brahms are also offensive lineman who have committed to Auburn, both of them being 4-star recruits.

At the skill positions Auburn has 4-star Devan Barrett at running back and 3-star wide receiver Noah Igbinoghene.

However, there are three players listed as athletes who have committed to Auburn that could become offensive threats.

The defensive star of this class so far is linebacker Tadarian Moultry. The Tigers have pulled in another 4-star linebacker in Kenney Britt.

The rest of the commits on defense are 3-star recruits with safeties Carlito Gonzalez and Jordyn Peters, cornerback Traivon Leonard, and linebacker Chandler Wooten.

Not to be forgotten is long snapper Bill Tayler and kicker Anders Carlson.

That’s a total of 18 commitments for the Tigers, which leaves room for about six or seven more before signing day.

It seems like Auburn football recruiting is set at offensive line, linebacker and in the secondary.

I know wide receiver and defensive line was the crown jewel last year, but I’d like to see us get some commits in that area.

The number one target for Auburn at wide receiver right now is Nico Collins out of Clay-Chalkville High School.

There are a lot of irons in the fire on the defensive line, but nothing promising at the moment. Those interested at defensive end are 4-stars Markaviest Bryant and Ryan Johnson.

There’s still a long way to go in the recruiting process, but it doesn’t look like Auburn is close to gaining anyone to the 2017 class any time soon.
