Auburn Football vs. Arkansas: Injury News on Johnson and Davis

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Here we take a look at all the injury news for Auburn football as they prepare for their game against Arkansas this weekend at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Auburn football has been pretty fortunate this season to not have a ton of injuries during the season, but a few players did get roughed up against Mississippi State.

Running back Kerryon Johnson only received three carries against the Bulldogs before leaving the game with an ankle injury.

Johnson returned to practice this week, and according to coaches he looked good moving around.

No one is saying that Auburn’s leading running back will play for sure this weekend, but I would be surprised if he’s not out there.

The sophomore has ran for 538 yards and 6 touchdowns, while averaging 5.1 yards per carry this year.

As good as Kamryn Pettway has been, Auburn football really needs Johnson to be healthy and effective to beat Arkansas on Saturday.

Speaking of Pettway, he has also been a bit banged up this year and especially after receiving 39 carries against Mississippi State. However, the bruising running back was also active at practice this week and should be good to go.

Just to be safe, Auburn football has been giving Kam Martin and Stanton Truitt a lot of looks at running back during the bye week.

Running back depth is already a concern for Auburn football as Malik Miller is likely out for most of the season after having knee surgery following the Louisiana Monroe game.

We’ll definitely have to keep an eye on Johnson throughout the week, but unless he has a setback I expect him to be a full go against Arkansas.

    Marcus Davis

We may now have a reason why Marcus Davis has not been as productive this season as some thought. Apparently he’s been dealing with an undisclosed hand injury.

“He’s been playing with his hand taped up and splinted up and I think that’s probably why you saw him drop a couple balls earlier in the year that he doesn’t normally drop,” offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said. “I think he’s going to be out of that and be full speed now, though.”

Through six games the senior has just 13 catches for 100 yards and hasn’t caught a pass in the last two games.

Lashlee also said that going into the Arkansas game Marcus Davis is the healthiest he’s been all season and should be more involved in the passing game.

That’s great news for Auburn fans as White could use another reliable starter next to Tony Stevens.
