Auburn Football vs. LSU Could Decide Futures of Les Miles and Gus Malzahn
It’s very possible as Auburn football takes on LSU this weekend, that Gus Malzahn and Les Miles could be fighting for their jobs.
Auburn football is in danger of starting the season 1-3, which means Gus Malzahn could be fighting for his job against LSU this weekend.
Yes, Auburn football has had a very difficult schedule to start the season, but this is still Auburn football, and we should be able to win these games.
I really felt like Texas A&M was a game that Gus Malzahn had to win, but after that loss, LSU is not a must-win game for him and Auburn.
Les Miles started out the season with a loss to an unranked Wisconsin team, immediately putting him back on the hot seat.
They followed that up with a subpar performance against Jacksonville State, and then they almost blew a 23-3 lead to Mississippi State this past weekend.

If LSU were to lose to Auburn I don’t see how Les Miles survives the seasons.
I think the same can be said for Gus Malzahn in this game, especially if the offense doesn’t show improvement.
Both coaches will still have jobs after Saturday, but I don’t think the loser of this game has a job at the end of the season.
Les Miles can’t afford another three loss season, especially with the expectations they had entering this year. I think the only loss Les Miles can survive right now is to Alabama. Even then, you know the LSU fanbase is getting tired of losing to the Tide.
Gus Malzahn has a little bit of a longer leash, but the heat will be turned up if Auburn starts the year 1-3. We knew this was a possibility entering the season, but I said that Malzahn would need to win at least two of these games in September to survive the season.
If Auburn were to lose to LSU, their next three games would be against Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi State and Arkansas. Those are all very winnable games, but Malzahn would have to win all three to survive the season in my opinion.
Maybe we are jumping the gun a little bit here, because after LSU every team on the schedule looks beatable except for Ole Miss and Alabama on the road.
Still, the margin for error is very slim for both of these coaches. The loser of this game will most definitely be on their way to looking for a new job this offseason.
