Auburn Football vs. MSU: Odds and Expert Predictions

Auburn football is a three point favorite as they go on the road for the first time all season to take on Mississippi State in Starkville Saturday morning.

This is a huge weekend for Auburn football, and many of the experts have a lot of confidence in the Tigers going into this game against Mississippi State.

The outcome of this game will determine the success or failure for each of these teams. Auburn needs to win this game to assert itself as a top four team in the SEC West, while Mississippi State needs this game to make sure they get to six wins this season.

We’ve already previewed the matchup in detail here, but below is what the so-called experts in the business think will happen in this game.

ESPN: All five of the SEC bloggers on ESPN picked Auburn to go on the road and beat the Bulldogs. The scores were 23-20, 31-20, 42-20, 27-17 and 35-28.

I was a bit surprised to see how many people think Auburn will win this game in a blowout. I’m still not as confident in our offense, but I appreciate the respect.

This must not have been close enough or big enough for the CBS or FOX experts to pick this week, so I’ll assume they think Auburn wins easily.

Bleacher Report: Brian Pedersen is taking the Bulldogs to come away with the upset at home by a score of 27-21. He thinks the home crowd and Mississippi State’s ability to stop the run is what wins them the game.

Campus Insiders: Brian Stultz has Auburn winning the game 28-24 with them having an advantage in all three phases of the game. However, he also believes the crowd will be a factor in this game, keeping it close.

The over/under for this game is 54.5 points. Only two of the seven predicted scores above have this game reaching the over.

Mississippi State has failed to score more than 27 points on anyone but UMASS, so I don’t see them scoring a ton of points in this one. On the flip side, Auburn hasn’t scored more than 18 points against any power five team this year, so I believe it will be a low scoring game.

I don’t see either team reaching the 30-point mark.

My Prediction:

Auburn – 24

Mississippi State – 13
