Auburn hasn't yet settled on captains but will before opener
Early in the week, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said he expected to name season captains on Tuesday. But his plans apparently changed, as Malzahn told AL.com on Wednesday that he will wait until all of this week's practices are complete on Thursday before selecting captains.
It is unclear when the captains will actually be announced publicly.
"We've got three or four guys that we're considering on the offensive side, which is a good thing," Malzahn told the media. "And then we've got two or three we're considering on the defensive side. But we're planning on having that information at the end of practice (Thursday)."
According to AL.com, the captaincy candidates on offense include junior quarterback Jeremy Johnson, senior receiver Ricardo Louis and junior tackle Avery Young. On defense, among the candidates are senior linebacker Kris Frost, senior cornerback Jonathan Jones, junior nose tackle Montravius Adams and junior safety Rudy Ford.
