Auburn on big nonconference games: 'It's what we're going to do'

Published Jun. 30, 2015 10:43 p.m. ET

Auburn announced Tuesday that it will open the 2019 season in Dallas against Oregon, continuing a trend of premier nonconference games for the program. The Tigers played on the road at Kansas State last season, this year will take on Louisville and in 2016 and '17 have a home-and-home with Clemson.

So while there's been much made of Power 5 teams needing to ramp up their schedules in the College Football Playoff era, Auburn has already gotten a head start -- and given its players, coaches and fans something to get excited about in the process.

"It's what we're going to do," athletic director Jay Jacobs told ESPN.

Referring to the Oregon game, Jacobs added, "(It) will be a lot of fun for our players. We're two of the fun teams in the nation right now. This is who guys want to come play for. Our fast-paced offense, a run-oriented offense that throws the balls a lot, we're a lot of fun to play with. We're sort of the hip team right now, and we plan to keep it that way."

"Hip" might not be the word the kids are using nowadays, but as far as keeping Auburn on the national stage and garnering positive attention, Jacobs obviously has the right idea.
