Austin Allen Still #1 QB Prospect in SEC

Pro Football Focus updated their list of the top 10 quarterbacks in college football and Austin Allen is still the best in the SEC and getting those NFL looks.

Two weeks ago, I did an article on the Pro Football Focus list of best quarterbacks in college football. At that time Arkansas quarterback, Austin Allen was heading the SEC according to draft analysts and wouldn’t you know it, he still is.

The Arkansas Razorbacks, through week 7, still has the best QB in the South Eastern Conference and 7th nationally. The next closest SEC QB to him is Chad Kelly coming in at number 9. So what are the NFL analysts seeing in the first-year starter for the Razorbacks?

The main thing he is doing to “wow” draft analysts is STILL his ability to thrive under pressure. Allen leads the nation while being pressured for 46.7 percent of his dropbacks. You can’t say he isn’t clutch.

The attention seems to be focused on Chad Kelly as far as SEC media coverage and even national media coverage. So who won the best grade of the night when these two SEC titans faced off?

“Allen won the battle of the two highest-graded SEC quarterbacks Saturday night, as the Razorbacks edged out Ole Miss 34-30 and Allen graded considerably better than the Rebels’ Chad Kelly.” – Pro Football Focus

With Allen grading so high and being so good under pressure, you can expect NFL scouts are already trying to talk to him about an early departure from the U of A. It is starting to look like the era of the Allen at Arkansas could end this year. For now, though, let’s enjoy watching it while we can.
