Baylor scraps plans for 2016 game Down Under

If you've been breaking out your "G'day, mate," in anticipation of following the Baylor Bears to Australia in 2016 for one heck of a football road trip, well, you can pack it away for now.

Baylor has shelved its attempt to stage an international football game against a Pac-12 opponent, although athletic director Ian McCaw said he'll continue to explore international opportunities for the future, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald.

“This came down to a matter of scheduling preferences that didn’t work out,” McCaw told the newspaper. “But we’ll continue to look for ways to strengthen our nonconference schedule and build the Baylor brand.”

The potential opponent was Cal, however it already has a packed non-conference schedule in 2016 that includes Notre Dame, UTEP and Texas. In addition, the Tribune-Herald reported, Baylor had yet to receive a waiver from the NCAA to hold an international game in August 2016 before the college football regular season begins.

The newspaper reports that Baylor's most pressing scheduling now shifts to setting up a 2020 game against an SEC opponent at a neutral site.
