Baylor University, Art Briles have terminated their employment relationship

Published Jun. 24, 2016 8:07 p.m. ET

On Friday night, Baylor University and Art Briles issued a joint statement saying they have mutually agreed to terminate their employment relationship, effective immediately.

"Both parties acknowledge that there were serious shortcomings in the response to reports of sexual violence by some student-athletes, including deficiencies in University processes and the delegation of disciplinary responsibilities with the football program. Baylor is addressing these shortcomings and making ongoing improvements," the statement said.

The 60-year-old Briles, 32-7 the past three seasons, was forced out in the wake of the sexual assault scandal that also resulted in the dumping of president Ken Starr and AD Ian McCaw last month.

Briles has been replaced by Jim Grobe as the Bears acting head coach for the 2016 season.
