Baylor will lose key cornerback to NFL draft

Published Jan. 4, 2016 6:24 p.m. ET

Baylor cornerback Xavien Howard announced that he will enter the 2016 NFL draft. The junior All-Big 12 performer who was tied for third in the conference with five interceptions, broke the news on Twitter on Monday.

Howard earned a starting spot last season and has emerged as Baylor's top cornerback. He finishes his career with 10 interceptions in 26 starts. Had Howard stayed for his senior season, the Bears would have returned their entire secondary. Now they'll have to fill a sizable hole.

The Bears still don't know if junior defensive tackle will forego his final season. The deadline for early entry is Jan. 18.
