B&B: Baylor and Briles producing big wins, big money for each other

The Baylor Bears were the laughingstock of the Big 12 for years and years and years.

And then Art Briles walked through that door and changed everything. Along with TCU's Gary Patterson, the Bears and Frogs now rule the conference, stepping over traditional powers Texas and Oklahoma.

And Briles and Patterson are reaping the rewards. According to federal tax records obtained by USA Today, Briles was credited with more than $4.2 million in total compensation for the 2013 calendar year. Patterson was just a notch below at $3.9 million.

Since Briles took over the program in 2008, he has dramatically raised the program's national profile and has positioned the long-time doormat as a perennial playoff contender. The Bears have won at least a share of the Big 12 championship in each of the last two seasons, and they'll almost assuredly start the 2015 season ranked in the top 10.

It's to hard argue that Briles hasn't been worth every penny that Baylor has paid him.
