Big Ten reprimands Jim Harbaugh, fines Michigan $10,000 for postgame comments
The Big Ten Conference announced a public reprimand for Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh and a $10,000 fine for the school for his postgame comments after the Wolverine's loss to Ohio State on Saturday.
“The Big Ten determined that Harbaugh's postgame comments regarding officials were in violation of Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01, which states in part that ‘The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.’ Coaches are teachers as well, and there is an expectation that they set the example for students and others in the area of sportsmanship.”
“I thought there were some outrageous calls, including the one that would have ended the game,” Harbaugh said after the game. “I was bitterly disappointed with the officiating.”
Michigan led by three in double overtime as Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett ran left on a 4th-and-1 option play to try to extend the game. He crashed into his own teammate right around the line to gain and fell backward which led to confusion on the sidelines as to whether or not he got across for the first down. Officials called the first down. If Barrett had been stopped, Michigan would have won the game.
Cameras also captured Harbaugh breaking his headset after an offsides call.

His behavior drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
