Bobby Petrino agrees to a 7-year contract extension with Louisville
Louisville Cardinals football coach Bobby Petrino has agreed to a seven-year, $30.625 million deal extension that will keep him under contract through 2023, the school announced Thursday.
"You (now) can talk to the parents and the player and say, `I'll be your coach throughout your entire career,'" Petrino said Thursday, according to The Associated Press. "That means a lot. I feel good about the way we're building our program, but we know it's very competitive out there."
"I'm thrilled with the job that Bobby has done here, and it's been great to have his wife Becky, their children and three grandchildren back in the city of Louisville," athletic director Tom Jurich said in a statement.
Petrino returned to Louisville in 2014 after beginning his head coaching career there from 2003-06. Afters spending 2007 leading the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, he coached the Arkansas Razorbacks from 2008-11 and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in 2013.
The Cardinals went 8-5 last season and beat Texas A&M Aggies in the Music City Bowl.
In his six seasons at Louisville, Petrino is 58-18 and has been to a bowl game each season. Overall, he is 100-39 in 11 seasons a college head coach.
