Boise State's blue turf temporarily gives way to green grass
Say it isn't so: Boise State's famed blue turf -- the most instantly recognizable college football field in the country -- has turned a prosaic green.
Well, it is so. But -- whew -- it's only temporary.
Boise State's Albertsons Stadium will play host on Saturday to an international soccer club match between Spain's Athletic Bilbao and Mexico's Club Tijuana. La Liga rules require a grass field for Bilbao, so the artificial surface had to be covered up. (Ask the teams from the Women's World Cup about artificial turf.)
Before the grass went on the field, the Smurf turf was covered by hard plastic panels and a couple of layers of waterproof plastic tarps.
And when the sod went down, what do you think it was? Bluegrass, of course.
Now, via video from the Idaho Statesman, take a time-lapse look at the transformation.
The grass should be removed and the blue turf reappear by July 22.
