Brandon Holloway threatens to boycott LSU game if he has to run up the middle

Brandon Holloway has told MSU media that he will boycott the LSU game if he has to run up the middle again.

Frustrated with Dan Mullen’s play-calling during the first two weeks, it appears MSU running back Brandon Holloway is taking things into his own hands, and will sit the big game vs. LSU out if he doesn’t get his way.

Most folks would assume a potential “boycott” from a 5′-8″ 165 pound running back for a game against LSU’s defensive front wouldn’t be a big deal, especially considering the fact that MSU has five other running backs on the roster. In this case, however, it is a big deal because Dan Mullen refuses to use three of those five backs, and has vowed to not give the other two more than five total carries in a game.

Brandon Holloway is Dan Mullen’s guy, so this boycott could be a killer to his game plan. What will he do if he’s not able to secure gains of six to eight inches on 1st and 10? Who will get the ball on 1st and Goal from the 3? If Holloway sits, it’s going to destroy Mullen’s goal of having no production from the running back position.

When asked why he came to this conclusion, here’s what Holloway had to say:

It makes no sense to run me up the middle. Look, those defensive lineman have paws the size of a bear. You’re about my size, what would happen to you if a bear grabbed you? I’ll tell you what – you’d be thrown to the ground! I make my yards in open space. I’ve got speed and everyone knows that, but I can’t run past a bear when he’s got his paw on me. So I’m not gonna do it anymore. We’ve got three 4-star running backs all over 200 pounds, this is ridiculous. Plus my momma is worried about me getting my block knocked off.

So, it looks like Coach Mullen has a decision to make. Is he going to change the game plan or be without his favorite running back?
