Briscoe leads Sam Houston past Houston Baptist 53-33 (Nov 18, 2017)

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Jeremiah Briscoe threw for threw for 464 yards and five touchdowns, three receivers surpassed 100 yards and score and Sam Houston State defeated Houston Baptist 53-33 on Saturday.

The Bearkats (10-1, 8-1 Southland Conference) have won six straight but wait for official announcement Sunday for their seventh-straight FCS playoff appearances because of a 41-30 loss to Central Arkansas in September. The Huskies (1-10, 0-9) lost their ninth straight.

Briscoe completed 28 of 43 passes for 464 yards, surpassing 10,000 for his career, and Corey Avery rushed 11 times for 124 yards as Sam Houston piled up 682 yards, a record fifth time over 600 this season.

Nathan Stewart had 10 catches for 198 yards and touchdowns covering 9, 39 and 63 yards. Yedidiah Lewis had nine receptions for 125 yards and a 13-yard touchdown and Davion Davis had four catches for 108 yards and a 67-yard TD. Louis and Davis each have 27 career touchdown receptions to tie the school record.

Briscoe ran for a touchdown and threw for four in the first half as the Bearkats to a 33-14 lead.

Bailey Zappe threw for two touchdowns and ran for one for the Huskies.
