BYU expecting a 'dogfight' in Logan against in-state rival Utah State

Throw out the records during rivalry weekend. BYU takes on in-state opponent Utah State this weekend, and though the Cougars have been up and down this season, you better believe they're chomping at the bit to prove their dominance within the state.

With that said, Bronco Mendenhall doesn't want his team to get geeked up for this bout. That could prove to be costly.

“Anytime you focus your emotion only on the opponent or on whom you’re playing, you risk the real highs and the real lows and not being very consistent,” he said. “What I’ve learned is a lot of teams play really hard against us. I don’t know if we’re targeted necessarily, but it’s usually a big game and emotional game for a lot of people. The best way I know how to handle it is just to focus on us improving our game and almost treat the opponents, no matter who it is, like nameless and faceless and it’s just us.
