BYU football: Jamaal Williams sets BYU single game rushing record
BYU football’s back Jamaal Williams had himself a historic night against Toledo.
Jamaal Williams ran for a school record 286 yards on Friday night in Provo as the BYU football team gained a 55-53 victory over Toledo. Williams also tied the BYU record for single game touchdowns, posting five in the high-octane game.
Williams broke Eldon Fortie‘s record of 272 yards that was set back in 1962 against George Washington University.
The ‘J-Swag Daddy’ did his damage in a number of ways for the Cougars. He took 30 carries, running the ball both up the middle and to the edges. The BYU offensive line won the point of attack for most of the game, and Williams was able to cash in.
Williams needs just 227 more rushing yards to break Harvey Unga‘s all-time career rushing record. The next three games will be tough sledding for Williams and the Cougars, with road trips to Michigan State and Boise State and a home clash with Mississippi State looming.

Still, one would imagine that Williams will own – or at least be very close to – the record by the time BYU football travels to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats on Saturday, Nov. 5.
