BYU snatched a recruit away from rival Utah as three-star offensive lineman LeRoy Tanoai signed with the Cougars.

The 6-4, 280-pound Tanoai originally committed to Utah, but upon his return from his LDS Church mission to Suva, Fiji, he decided to sign with BYU.

“We are excited for LeRoy to join the program,” BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said. “He is an outstanding football player and we look forward to having him contribute to the team.”

In 2013, Tanoai graduated from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Cal., and was tabbed the 38th-best guard in the country at the time.

Prior to his mission, Tanoai was being recruited by UCLA, Hawaii, Nebraska and Washington to name a few.

Tanoai is expected to join the team for fall camp.
