Cal Poly adds transfer quarterback
(STATS) - Cal Poly is looking to replace a graduating Dano Graves at quarterback this season.
Add Daniel Prieto to the mix of candidates to run the Mustangs' triple option.
Cal Poly coach Tim Walsh announced Priero's transfer into the program on Wednesday. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining after being a preferred walk-on at San Diego State last fall following a successful freshman campaign at El Camino-Compton Center in 2015
The 6-foot, 174-pound Prieto, a left-hander, completed 161 of 288 passes (56 percent) for 1,514 yards and 15 touchdowns with three interceptions in his one season at El Camino-Compton Center.
"We had him at camp two summers ago and we liked him then," Walsh said of Prieto, who will arrive on campus in late July. "We're excited to have him become a Mustang."
Prieto is a 2015 graduate of Newbury Park High School in Ventura County. He originally committed to play at Oregon State before enrolling at El Camino-Compton Center.
Last season, Cal Poly went 7-5 and was an at-large selection in the FCS playoffs, finishing No. 24 in the STATS FCS Top 25.
