Cal will try to flip the script against UCLA on Thursday night

Published Oct. 21, 2015 7:21 p.m. ET

Over the past couple of seasons, UCLA has been the dominant team in this battle of the UC schools. However, after two consecutive Pac-12 losses and Cal's sudden ride, it seems as though Cal is the team that has more to lose heading into Thursday.

Cal has only beaten UCLA once in Los Angeles since 1999; however, the Bears come in with the better record (5-1, 2-1) and is ranked No. 20. After surrendering 124 points in its past three games and losing to ASU and Stanford, the Bruins are no longer ranked.

Cal head coach Sonny Dykes believes this game is a measuring stick for his team, saying that good football programs win these types of games.

''Part of our maturation as a football program is believing that we're good enough to win against good football teams on the road, and especially when we don't play well,'' Dykes said, according to Yahoo! Sports.

With a win on Thursday, Cal will be bowl-eligible for the first time since 2011.
