Canceling with Mississippi State pays off for Tulane
Tulane football has canceled its scheduled visit to Mississippi State in 2016, and according to the Clarion-Ledger, it is a move that will pay off for the Green Wave.
Despite needing to pay a $350,000 penalty as a result of breaking the schools' contract, Tulane will end up making more in the long run, as the Green Wave agreed to a more lucrative three-year series with Oklahoma. The series with the Sooners is worth a total of $1.2 million, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
The decision to cancel with Mississippi State altogether was one that was made in lieu of pushing back the series with the Bulldogs.
"If we push it out then you're trying to schedule other teams five years out, and it's just a challenge," Tulane athletic director Brandon Macneill said.
