Cards hire USC's Heyward to be DBs coach
Not long after Terrell Buckley announced he was leaving Louisville to coach the secondary for Mississippi State, the Cardinals were able to lure Keith Heyward away from Southern Cal to take his place.
"We are excited to add Keith Heyward to our staff," U of L coach Bobby Petrino said in a statement released by the school. "He's an excellent teacher and technician. He understands our schemes and will be a great addition to the staff. He has displayed an ability to be a tremendous leader of young men and is an excellent recruiter."
Before joining Louisville's staff Heyward spent two seasons at USC and prior to that served as Washington’s secondary coach from 2012-13. Heyward said he was to coach along side Petrino.
"Coach Petrino is recognized as a tremendous coach, "Heyward said in a statment. "This is an excellent program with an experienced team returning next season and I'm looking forward coaching this veteran group. This is a great opportunity for me to help this program win an ACC Championship."
As a player, Heyward was a former all-Pac-10 cornerback when he attended Oregon State.
