Carl Lawson's status for LSU remains the same, day-to-day
Can Auburn survive the trip to Death Valley if star defensive end Carl Lawson does not play? Considering the Tigers nearly fell to Jacksonville State without Lawson in the lineup, their chances appear slim without him this weekend.
Gus Malzahn was asked about his defensive end's status during his Tuesday media session and his answer gave no indications one way or another whether Lawson would play.
“Like I said, everybody is day-to-day, so at this point, I’m not ready to say anything regarding any of them,” Malzahn said.
Auburn's head coach was then asked about his level of concern of the pass rush if Lawson is out.
“The big thing for us is we’ve got to get better on third down, and that’s been our focus,” Malzahn said (Auburn's third down defense currently ranks 114th nationally).
Lawson was seen on the sideline sporting crutches during Saturday's game. His absence is likely to cripple the Tiger pass rush unless the light turns on for freshman Byron Cowart between now and Saturday's trip to LSU. Lawson's status for the game is something to clearly be on the lookout for as the game gets closer to kickoff.
