Central Michigan's wild fourth-quarter comeback has OSU's attention
Last Christmas Eve, after dinner, but before bed, Central Michigan trailed Western Kentucky 49-14 in the Bahamas Bowl.
There was just a quarter to play.
That's when CMU quarterback Cooper Rush threw four touchdown passes in the final 15 minutes and led his team to a wild comeback. CMU rallied, trailed by one with just one second to play and instead of going for the tie, elected to go for the win. Western Kentucky got the win, but Oklahoma State players noticed.
Yes, Oklahoma State.
“I actually talked to the Western Kentucky quarterback (Brandon Doughty) at the Manning Camp,” OSU quarterback Mason Rudolph said to The Oklahoman. “I got a little in-depth report from him. … They're a great team and they do a lot of things well, especially on defense. We're more focused on what we can do and the things we can control.”
Oklahoma State opens the 2015 season at Central Michigan Thursday night and seven offensive starters are back for the CMU team.
“They've gotta have confidence,” OSU offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said to The Oklahoman. "The guts it takes to come back anytime you're down by that much at halftime. You've got to be able to lean on one another and be a good team. If you're able to surmount that comeback in the second half, it tells me there's some cohesiveness. They didn't tear apart. They came together.”
