CFB AM: Awful British announcer calling Ohio St.-Oregon is awesome
Have you heard of the Bad British Commentary series?
If not, it’s a hilarious British dude broadcasting American sports. Type in “Bad British Commentary” on YouTube, and your whole work day will be ruined.
On Monday, the latest edition was released: Ohio State-Oregon in the national title game.
Yep, it’s fantastic.
An Ohio State player is called a “red bloke,” a Stone Cold Steve Austin reference is mixed into a scoring drive summary, the announcer can’t figure out why the “judges” didn’t give Ezekiel Elliott a 7 instead of a 6 on a touchdown run (prior to the PAT) – it’s a wonderful couple minutes.
Here’s the video. Enjoy.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. There’s a disaster coming this year with the College Football Playoff: The semifinal games are scheduled for New Year’s Eve, which will considerably hurt ratings and is undesirable to most fans. ESPN, being the holders of the playoff rights, are lobbying the playoff to move the games to Jan. 2 since Jan. 1, like this past season, isn’t an option with other bowl games locked into contracts. So far, the CFP has no interest in moving the games. Stewart Mandel breaks this down in much more detail and says it’s a simple solution to move the games for this one year and is not worth harming all the goodwill that was built up in Year 1 of the playoff.
2. There’s a lot that’s incredibly ridiculous about college football recruiting, and it’s hilarious to see a five-star recruit have some fun with the process and not let it overwhelm him. Soso Jamabo is a running back that every college coach in America would love to have, and many are spending a ton of time trying to figure out how to secure his commitment. So when he had a chance to list his two “finalists” on TV, who did he choose? The University of Phoenix and ITT Tech.
3. The College Football Playoff committee re-elected Jeff Long, the AD at Arkansas, as chair for the 2015-16 season. Long took his share of criticism last season for some of the weekly inconsistencies in his answers regarding the playoff ranking process – as he should have – but overall I thought he gave an honest and thorough effort to explaining the committee’s decisions. The whole thing was new for everybody involved. We should expect a much more seamless and consistent week-to-week conversation this season.

THREE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
1. Alabama announced a couple interesting hires on Monday, most notably Tosh Lupoi as the new outside linebackers coach. If you remember, Lupoi was a young rising star on Steve Sarkisian’s staff at Washington, making a name for himself through dogged recruiting efforts, but got caught up in an NCAA investigation into improper benefits (he was later cleared) and found himself out of a job rather than following Sark to USC. He joined Nick Saban’s staff in March 2014 as an “intern,” Saban said, and contributed behind the scenes. Now he gets a full-time shot on Bama’s staff.
Now about that weak Alabama secondary: Saban also hired former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker as Bama’s new secondary coach, which he’s done in previous stops with LSU, Ohio State, the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars.
2. UCF is adding a beach club to its stadium this year, where fans can drink beer, meet with clients, lay out in the sun and do other wonderful things. This will either be the best thing a football stadium has ever done or turn into a problem of some kind, because alcohol and the humid Florida sun were made for each other.
For now, here are a couple renderings. It does look pretty cool.
3. Oregon is getting another Mariota. Defensive end Matthew Mariota, Marcus’ younger brother, will sign his letter of intent with the Ducks on Feb. 4. A tradition of excellence continues.
THREE THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW
1. Here are some 2015 Big Ten predictions, per Steven Lassan. It seems like Ohio State is playing in its own league entering the new season.
2. At Penn State, don’t brag about getting a B without studying. James Franklin is always watching:
@HarperJR21 you didn't study huh, interesting, guess I need to up your study hall hours! We don't settle for B's!

As is Colorado coach Mike McIntyre, apparently:

3. Enjoyed this Zac Ellis piece on the rise of Memphis coach Justin Fuente.
LASTLY
* An offensive tackle who’s choosing between Alabama, Auburn and LSU is getting a little tired of the attention and recruiting process. “Sometimes I wish I was a one-star,” Chidi Valentine-Okeke said.
Have a great Tuesday, everybody.
