Changes at the Offensive Line

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

During the Monday press conference from the Arkansas coaches, a lot came out on the offensive line. Both Bielema and Enos had some positive things to say going into A&M preparation.

The experimentation on the o-line was painful to watch at some points during the Texas State game but it may have paid off. Enos today seemed very pleased with the work that first-year offensive line coach, Kurt Anderson, has done.

Arkansas has faced ridiculously fast offenses but not a speedy defense like the one A&M has. Myles Garret and Daeshon Hall give the Aggies an incredibly dangerous pass rush. This week the Razorback staff is trying to take that threat out.

For starters, the coaches have moved Frank Ragnow from center to right guard. Bielema said today that the move was strictly about getting the best players out there. Having Ragnow at the guard position will give the Hogs a good chance against the pass rush.

At right tackle, Brian Wallace will start after grading in the 90’s. He may be rotated out with Colton Jackson during the game but Wallace showed more speed in pass protection. Jake Raulerson will be taking over for Ragnow at center.

If you have read anything that I’ve written thus far in the season, you know I have been underwhelmed by the o-line. I was really excited about the Kurt Anderson hire and still am.  I really hope that everything gets worked out this week.

Although I may have been a little unhappy about how they have looked so far, I have full confidence that it will get better. It makes me feel better that the coaches aren’t just content with what they have had so far. By addressing the issues and making changes, it would seem that the lineup for A&M is going to be pretty solid.
