Charlie Strong takes play-calling duties away from Texas' DC after latest loss
Charlie Strong will take over play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Vance Bedford at Texas, a source told FOX Sports Sunday.
The 2-2 Longhorns have given up at least 47 points in three games this season and are coming off a 49-31 loss at Oklahoma State. UT, which is loaded with young talent on both sides of the ball, ranks No. 87 in total defense and No. 91 in yards per play allowed.
The Horns have surrendered 13 plays of 30 yards or longer, which is No. 100 in the country. They allowed only 19 such plays in 12 games last year, which ranked No. 14 in the nation.
Bedford worked under Strong at Louisville and came with him to UT. Before becoming a head coach Strong was one of the top defensive coordinators in college football. Strong was a finalist for the Broyles Award honoring the nation's top assistant coach three times.
Orangebloods was the first to report the change.
