Christian McCaffrey is not the 2016 Heisman Trophy favorite, but he's close

Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey was the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2015 and may have won the award if the vote was held after his record-setting Rose Bowl performance.

Heading into the 2016 season--with Heisman winner Derrick Henry on his way to the NFL--McCaffrey figured to be an early favorite for college football's most prestigious award. However, it is Clemson QB Deshaun Watson that is the early favorite.

According to Bovada, McCaffrey's current odds of winning the trophy are 5/1, tied with LSU RB Leonard Fournette for the second best odds. Watson is currently the favorite at 9/2.

McCaffrey broke Barry Sanders' single-season NCAA record for all-purpose yards in 2015. He finished the season with 3,864 all-purpose yards, including 2,019 rushing yards.
